Riji® can even withstand our MD’s cooking
Most of the major food producers and retailers in the UK are talking to us about using riji®, our biodegradable food packaging, for various applications including meat packaging. So Kevin Clarke, our MD decided to cook roast pork in a riji® tray on Saturday.
He wanted to see how successful it would be for a consumer to pick up a pack of riji®-packed meat from the supermarket, take off the wrapping, and pop it in the oven still in the riji® tray.
He put it in a pre-heated 180c oven at around 4.45 p.m. and was meant to take it out by 5.30 p.m.
It wasn’t until he was watching Noel Coward’s Present Laughter at the Chichester Festival theatre later (a real hoot, he says), that he remembered he’d left it in the oven. He got home around 11.15 p.m. to a house filled with a very rich smell of roast meat.
The good news, is that the riji® tray, which had withstood six-and-a-half hours in the 180c oven, had held in all the juices although they were by then well and truly browned off, and apart from being a bit charred it was functioning excellently. He was even able to handle the tray without oven gloves, so good are its insulation properties.
The bad news is that the pork was decimated. We’ve told him to stick to the day job and leave the cooking to she who must be obeyed.Back
